Those very first few days with your newborn are a time like no other. Special, exciting, tiring, and often they feel so busy with the constant nappy changing and feeding. Leaving the house with your newborn can feel overwhelming, so why not invite your photographer to you?
Let me work around the needs of a new mother and child, let me document real life of having a brand new baby in the house. The nappies, the muslin squares and the crib by the side of the bed, they are all the things that are the realities of your life right now, they are also the things that when you look back, will make you smile.
A relaxed, lifestyle approach to your photos is easy for you, and easy for baby. I doesn’t matter whether they are in a deep milk sleep and let us capture those sleepy, snuggly shots, or whether they are awake and showing us their real personality.
I wont be posing your baby in the very stylised and elaborate poses that are very much the fashion at the moment. Instead, I will be capturing shots of a baby over your shoulder whilst you make a cup of tea, or of you rocking baby to sleep whilst pacing the floor of your living room. Equally, I might take pictures of siblings who most often cant wait to introduce me to their newest playmate, or Grandparents who have popped in to offer a helping hand.
Often people may be concerned about whether their house will be tidy enough, or about how light it might be. Don’t worry about that at all, I am able to work in any settings, and am often able to find pockets of natural light which you may never even have noticed. I may move the odd thing, but I can work around piles of washing and the general chaos of everyday life, I will never underestimate how far the contents of one play box can go!
Having said that, I often use a bed for some newborn shots, so having a clean, light and plain duvet cover is useful. Don’t worry if all you own is dinosaurs or floral, instead, just have a few throws or blankets on hand we can use. When it comes to what clothes yourselves and baby should be wearing, I always ask that people go for what is comfortable, and what you wont mind seeing on your wall in years to come.

I have photographed people in the PJ’s when baby is tiny and even just getting dressed is tricky enough, but people always ask me what works best, so out of choice, I would say simple, plain colours. As for baby, I always think less can be more. Seeing their little bare legs and toes is wonderful, but if you have specific outfits which mean something to you, there is no reason why we cant image them to.
When it comes to booking your session, if you want to capture those very early days, it may be best to contact me before baby arrives so we can get something roughly penciled in, although I am very aware that these dates are most probably going to change 😊 If you don’t make the early days, don’t panic, we can arrange for any time after when your more ready, I will always try to fit in newborns when I can.
